CommBank’s Australian menu distinguishes term loans, equipment finance, overdrafts and bank guarantees. An overdraft provides borrowing capacity; a bank guarantee serves a different contractual purpose.

Separate an overdraft from a bank guarantee
Map each need to the product that actually supplies it. A security bond or guarantee for a lease is not the same as operating cash available to pay wages. Ask how a guarantee affects collateral or overall limits before treating it as cost-free capacity. For an equipment purchase, identify the security taken over the asset and any wider obligations. Compare the cash price, initial contribution, repayment dates and final payment on identical assumptions.
Worked planning example
Illustrative: a business needs AUD 40,000 of operating cash and an AUD 20,000 lease guarantee. Do not assume AUD 60,000 of usable cash results from approving both facilities. Confirm what money is actually advanced and what security is committed.

- Does a guarantee reduce other available limits?
- What is required to release security after the obligation ends?
Request a dated proposal identifying the contracting lender, lessor or factor, every compulsory charge, the payment schedule and the conditions that remain before funding.
