Our comparison analysis
Overdraft review dates and loan obligations
Distinguish the planned repayment of a term loan from the conditions for keeping an overdraft available. Ask when the limit will be reviewed and what information is required. A business that uses the overdraft continuously to finance a long-lived investment should test what happens if the limit is reduced. For loan comparisons, match the fixed or variable rate basis, fees and settlement date. Read a personal guarantee independently of the business’s repayment forecast.
Worked planning example
Illustrative: a GBP 40,000 overdraft funds a fit-out expected to pay back over three years. Test a scenario in which GBP 10,000 must be repaid at review. The business needs a source for that cash even if it has paid interest on time.
Hypothetical assumptions, not a provider quote or an underwriting rule.
Questions to put in writing
- When is the facility reviewed and what can change?
- Is a director or member guarantee required?
- Does early repayment trigger a charge under this product?
Request a dated proposal identifying the contracting lender, lessor or factor, every compulsory charge, the payment schedule and the conditions that remain before funding.
