Business lines of credit and SBA lending

Evidence of the funding role

Wells Fargo publishes its own BusinessLine and Prime Line of Credit products and links to its SBA lending offering.

Wells Fargo’s business-credit page separates BusinessLine, Prime Line of Credit and SBA lending. These should not be treated as one universal credit policy.

Compare the specific credit-line agreement. An unsecured label does not by itself mean that no personal guarantee is required.

Our comparison analysis

Choosing between distinct credit-line products

Identify the product in the written proposal before comparing its rate or requirements with another lender. Ask which information supports the initial decision and which conditions govern continued availability. A larger approved limit can be less useful than a smaller facility if the borrowing base or draw conditions restrict access when needed. For an SBA-backed proposal, separately check the current program requirements, the bank’s underwriting and the permitted use of proceeds.

Worked planning example

Illustrative: an enterprise expects to use USD 35,000 for three months from a USD 100,000 limit. Compare interest on the expected drawings plus all facility charges; do not assume that fees are charged only on the drawn amount.

Hypothetical assumptions, not a provider quote or an underwriting rule.

Questions to put in writing

  • Which named product is being offered?
  • What guarantees and periodic reviews are required?
  • What fees apply when the balance is zero or the facility closes?

Request a dated proposal identifying the contracting lender, lessor or factor, every compulsory charge, the payment schedule and the conditions that remain before funding.
