The key decision
Cleaning businesses often need to pay staff and buy supplies before commercial customers settle invoices. A funding plan should connect those upfront costs to accepted contracts and realistic collection dates.
What to consider before choosing
Prepare a schedule by customer, including service frequency, invoice timing and payment terms. Include payroll taxes, insurance and consumable costs. Distinguish one-off jobs from recurring agreements and review cancellation or dispute terms. A small contract can still create a cash strain when several payroll cycles occur before the first receipt.
Your preparation checklist
- Map each contract’s payroll and billing cycle.
- Identify customer concentration and acceptance requirements.
- Test a delayed payment from the largest account.
Use the business’s own evidence
Industry labels help organize questions, but they do not establish eligibility or a standard borrowing amount. Use the company’s actual margins, collection history and operating commitments. Separate recurring trade from one-off events, pass-through receipts and money committed to future delivery.
Prepare the records that explain the business model: settlement reports, accepted invoices, signed contracts or a stock budget as relevant. Share sensitive documents only through a confirmed secure process. Compare financing against the contribution the funded activity generates after its delivery costs, not against gross sales alone.
Hypothetical planning example
Put the decision into numbers
Illustration: a new contract requires 18,000 of wages and supplies before the first 25,000 collection. The margin must still cover overhead, taxes and financing costs.
This is an illustration, not a customer case, provider quote, approval or market benchmark. Unless a currency is stated, use one consistent currency throughout your own calculation.
