The key decision
An online application does not tell you whether the provider is a bank, non-bank lender, broker or marketplace. Compare the actual funding entity and product rather than the channel used to apply.
What to consider before choosing
A faster process can be valuable, but it does not remove the need to evaluate total cost and collection pressure. Compare the current bank option with relevant alternatives using the same documents, amount and timing. Ask whether the business can improve its position before applying, for example by resolving a reporting gap or collecting overdue invoices.
Your preparation checklist
- Identify the legal provider and any intermediary.
- Separate an initial response from unconditional funding.
- Compare full written offers, not landing-page claims.
Build a one-page funding brief
Write down the amount the business actually needs to receive, the purpose, the payment deadline and the cash event that repays the facility. Include a current debt schedule rather than discussing the new proposal in isolation. When comparing structures, use the same starting assumptions. A larger approved amount, a longer term or a smaller instalment changes the decision and should not be mistaken for a better price.
A bank, programme lender, non-bank provider and broker can play different roles. Identify the actual contracting party and ask which conditions remain. Where the contract, guarantee or local regulatory position is unclear, obtain qualified advice before signing.
Hypothetical planning example
Put the decision into numbers
Illustration: a quick conditional offer may still require ownership verification and bank review. A slower alternative might be less costly, but only useful if it can meet the genuine business deadline.
This is an illustration, not a customer case, provider quote, approval or market benchmark. Unless a currency is stated, use one consistent currency throughout your own calculation.
