The key decision
A bank decline is a starting point for diagnosis, not proof that an alternative lender will approve the file. Ask whether the issue is documentation, policy, security, credit or repayment capacity.
What to consider before choosing
Some issues can be corrected before another application, such as inconsistent financial records. Others require a smaller request, more trading history or an improved cash cycle. Repeatedly applying without changing the underlying problem can waste time and spread sensitive information unnecessarily. Compare a non-borrowing solution where the economics do not support financing.
Your preparation checklist
- Request the reason for the decline where available.
- Separate fixable information gaps from repayment problems.
- Create a revised funding brief before approaching alternatives.
Prepare an accurate file, then choose the route
A useful application connects the funding purpose with current business records and a credible source of repayment. Keep entity details, ownership, reported revenue and bank information consistent. Explain material changes rather than trying to make the business appear more established or profitable than the records support.
Ask what information is needed at the initial review and what can wait until a secure document route is confirmed. Do not send passwords, identity numbers or full bank records in a general enquiry. An approval is only useful if the final structure is affordable and suitable for the business.
Hypothetical planning example
Put the decision into numbers
Illustration: a request for 100,000 may exceed the business’s demonstrated cash generation, while a properly budgeted 30,000 need could be more realistic. A reduced amount still requires assessment.
This is an illustration, not a customer case, provider quote, approval or market benchmark. Unless a currency is stated, use one consistent currency throughout your own calculation.
